Romanians with difficulties in paying their debts to banks will benefit from increased protection against debt collectors, according to a Government Emergency Ordinance (GEO).

The new rules, which transpose an EU Directive, require banks to provide refinancing and restructuring solutions to customers in payment difficulties, regardless of the type of credit. The directives also aim to create a common set of EU-wide rules on non-performing loan servicers to make the market more competitive.
