The Global Chain operation, coordinated by Europol, INTERPOL and Frontex, took place from June 8-12, simultaneously in 59 countries, resulting in the arrest of 1,024 suspects and the identification of 2,070 victims and potential victims of human trafficking.

Romania played a significant role as a co-leader of the action, conducting investigations focused on sexual exploitation, forced labor, and begging. Of the arrested individuals, 334 are suspected of human trafficking, while 690 are linked to other crimes. The majority of the victims are adult women, and 86.4% of minors were sexually exploited. Over 40,000 police officers participated in the operation, checking hundreds of thousands of people and documents.

Romania collaborated with German authorities to identify the victims, and the operation benefited from the support of international organizations, including the FBI.
