George Simion, the leader of AUR, accused the law enforcement institutions in Bucharest of discrimination against the opposition and requested the intervention of the Protection and Guard Service (SPP) to ensure the protection of himself, his family, and his colleagues in the party leadership. He mentioned that he has been the target of death threats and that his family and party are being terrorized, stating that the Police are not fulfilling their duty. The General Inspectorate of the Romanian Police confirmed the opening of a criminal case following Simion's complaints and emphasized that they act impartially and equidistantly to protect the rights of all citizens. The Police stated that they take threats seriously and will identify those responsible. The Police's statement reaffirmed its commitment to protecting freedom of expression but emphasized that it should not be used as a pretext for breaking the law.
