FSB claims to have thwarted a plot to divert a MiG-31, with a Kinzhal missile on board, towards Romania.

The Federal Security Service of Russia (FSB, formerly KGB) published a statement on Tuesday morning claiming that the secret service had "discovered and thwarted" an operation by the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense "to hijack a high-altitude supersonic interceptor MiG-31 of the Russian Aerospace Forces, which carries the hypersonic air-to-air missile Kinzhal," state media reported on Tuesday, citing Reuters.

The TASS agency also reports on the FSB announcement, stating that the aim was "to provoke the largest NATO airbase," referring to the military base at Mihail Kogălniceanu.
