During a joint press conference with Romanian Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz addressed the hybrid threats from Russia, emphasizing the close collaboration between Germany and Romania. Merz announced that the defense ministers from both countries will sign a memorandum of understanding in Berlin regarding arms exports, highlighting the shared responsibility in ensuring European security.


He also reaffirmed continued support for Ukraine, mentioning Romania's contribution to energy supplies to it. Merz welcomed the negotiations between Ukraine and Russia, expressing a desire to contribute to peace in the region. Additionally, he emphasized the economic importance of the bilateral partnership, mentioning German investments in Romania and its role in Europe's energy security, including the diversification of natural gas supplies and the expansion of renewable energies.
