The former Minister of Transport, Alexandru-Răzvan Cuc, has been sent to trial by the DNA, being accused of mediating a bribe of over one million lei for Mihai Alecu, the general director of the Romanian Auto Registry (RAR). Alongside him, businessman Cătălin Daniel Bușe has also been sent to trial. The case has been registered at the Bucharest Tribunal, and a magistrate will verify the preventive measures applied to both.
Prosecutors claim that, in September 2022, RAR initiated a public procurement procedure worth approximately 23 million lei for the maintenance of vehicle inspection equipment. Bușe, with Cuc's help, allegedly promised Alecu a 6% share of the contract value to assist him in preferentially appointing members of the bid evaluation committee. The money was to be paid in installments, with the first payment due before Christmas.
