Brunner, a member of the ÖVP, the Austrian People's Party, replied in writing to questions from MEPs, stressing that it is the Council's responsibility to decide on the lifting of remaining internal land border controls. He assured that he would support Romania's accession to Schengen on land, if this step is not taken before he takes office.
