Florin Manole, the Minister of Labor, declared on Saturday, at a press conference in Arad, that he will not allow layoffs in the institutions subordinate to the ministry, emphasizing that his objective is to reduce expenses by 10% without affecting the staff. Manole stated that it is essential to maintain a functional social assistance system, considering the requests from county councils for the hiring of 2,500 new workers in the field.
He insisted that he will not make layoffs, given that the institutions are already understaffed, and that the expense reductions will come from reorganization and other savings. The minister highlighted the negative impact of staff reductions on the efficiency of the Labor Inspection, which has lost 50% of its employees since 2008, affecting law-abiding entrepreneurs. Manole attended a meeting in Arad with the managers of the subordinate institutions to discuss the implementation of budgetary expense reduction measures.
