The police of the Directorate for Combating Organized Crime, together with D.I.I.C.O.T. prosecutors, carried out three searches in Bucharest on March 10, 2026, in a case of forming an organized criminal group. Five individuals, four men from Bangladesh and one Romanian woman, are suspected of human trafficking and forced labor.
The victims, brought to Romania with the promise of legal jobs, were kept in illegality, without work contracts. The group forced them to work in courier and delivery services, paying them between 300 and 400 lei per week, while the outstanding amounts were withheld by the suspects. One victim reported the situation to the media in Bangladesh, and was subsequently assaulted. Authorities continue investigations to identify the entire exploitation network.
