MEPs call for more protection for pets and tougher penalties against traffickers.

The European Commission is being urged to impose a mandatory registration and identification system for dogs and cats in the EU to combat trafficking and document fraud. It also wants a common definition of breeding farms and the implementation of registers for licensed breeders and sellers.
