Environment Minister Diana Buzoianu has announced her intention to introduce a bill to drastically increase fines for those who feed bears, given the growing bear population in Romania, estimated at 10,000-12,000 bears. Bear feeding by tourists, especially on the Transfăgărășan, leads to dangerous incidents. The ministry is also proposing to install CCTV systems to identify offenders. After a tragic incident, PSD MPs tabled a draft law that foresees fines of between 10,000 and 60,000 lei for feeding bears.
