Former President Emil Constantinescu has commented on the death of Ion Iliescu, emphasizing that he has surpassed the judgment of his contemporaries and has gone down in history. Iliescu died at the age of 95 and will be buried in a small ceremony on August 7, a day of national mourning. Constantinescu, who defeated Iliescu in the 1996 elections, was accompanied in his message of condolences by other former presidents Traian Basescu and Klaus Iohannis.
