The High Court of Cassation and Justice has definitively ordered the termination of the criminal proceedings against Elena Udrea in the Hidroelectrica case.

The court's decision was taken on the grounds of the statute of limitations, which was already established when the case was judged on the merits at the Bucharest Court of Appeal in April 2023. In the same case, journalist Dan Andronic also benefited from the same decision. Elena Udrea has to pay €3.4 million and is in Târgșor prison, serving a six-year sentence in the Gala Bute case.
