The current president of the Romanian Academy, Ioan-Aurel Pop, has stated that he will not run for any position in the leadership of the institution. The elections will take place on Tuesday, according to the Academy's Statute, which provides for voting once every four years, in the first week of April.

The two candidates, Marius Andruh and Mircea Dumitru, will have 10 minutes to present their management plan in front of the General Assembly. The president is elected either with two-thirds of the votes in the first round or with a simple majority in the second round, and the new president will take office 15 days after the election.

Marius Andruh, a chemistry professor, and Mircea Dumitru, a specialist in philosophy, are both vice presidents of the Romanian Academy, elected in 2022. The elections for the positions of vice presidents and secretary general will take place on April 29.
