DIICOT has opened a criminal case for the cyber attack on the National Administration 'Apele Române'

The Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT) has announced the opening of a criminal case following the cyber attack that targeted the National Administration 'Apele Române'. The investigations focus on crimes such as illegal access to computer systems and disruption of their functioning, initiated after the institution filed a criminal complaint regarding a ransomware attack.

This attack led to the encryption of data on the affected servers and devices. DIICOT is collaborating with police officers from the Directorate for Combating Organized Crime to gather the necessary evidence. Additionally, the National Administration 'Apele Române' confirmed that the attack compromised several workstations but did not affect essential activities. The investigation is ongoing, and the method of access used by the attackers in the network remains unknown.
