1,768 building permits for residential buildings were issued in January 2026, representing a decrease of 7.8% compared to the same month in 2025. However, the total usable area of these permits increased by 13.5%, reaching 532,378 sqm. The majority of permits (73.7%) were issued for the rural area. Compared to the previous month, there was a decrease of 150 permits, with the most affected regions being West, Center, North-East, South-East, and Bucharest-Ilfov. In contrast, the regions of South-West Oltenia, North-West, and South-Muntenia saw increases. Regarding non-residential buildings, 377 permits were issued, an increase of 9.3% compared to January 2025, but with a total usable area of 175,903 sqm, a decrease of 51.7%. This decrease in usable area was significant in the regions of South-West Oltenia, North-West, South-East, Center, and North-East, while South-Muntenia, West, and Bucharest-Ilfov recorded increases.
