At the Damen shipyard in Galați, the launch of the NRP 'D. João II' took place, a multi-role vessel of the MPV 10720 type intended for the Portuguese Navy.

This ship will function as a platform for aerial, marine, and underwater drones, having roles in oceanographic research, environmental monitoring, humanitarian assistance, and disaster response. The project, which was signed in 2024, is financed through the European Union's Recovery and Resilience Mechanism and has a value of approximately 132 million euros.

With a length of almost 108 meters and a displacement of 7,000 tons, the NRP 'D. João II' is one of the largest military ships built in Romania. The ship features a 94-meter runway for drone operations, two hangars for helicopters, and can transport up to 300 military personnel. Sea trials are scheduled for this year, and the ship will enter service with the Portuguese fleet, joining other frigates built by Damen.
