The Superior Council of Magistracy (CSM) has expressed severe criticism regarding the draft law on the unified salary of personnel paid from public funds, stating that its provisions will undermine the functioning of justice. CSM emphasizes that the income of a magistrate who will enter the profession after the adoption of the law will be unacceptable, and promotion to higher courts will lead to financial losses. The project contains absurd normative solutions that diminish the incomes of magistrates and affect the independence of justice.
CSM announces that it will use all legal instruments to protect the authority of the judiciary. The Minister of Labor, Dragoș Pîslaru, stated that the project aims for equity in the system, mentioning that judges have salaries above the grid, but that the new law will reduce salaries in payment by 16%. CSM warns that the adoption of the law in its current form will destabilize the human resource in justice and will severely affect its constitutional position.
