Cristian Cenușe, a 37-year-old Romanian citizen, was released on Friday from the prison in Venezuela, where he had been a political detainee since September 27, 2024. He was arrested by the Bolivarian National Guard in San Cristóbal while traveling to Caracas.

His case was brought to the public's attention by the Venezuelan NGO Foro Penal, which announced that the man had been missing for 10 months, without his family having any information about him. Recently, Cenușe managed to communicate with his wife. His release took place in the context of a series of releases of foreign citizens from Venezuelan prisons, following the arrest of former president Nicolas Maduro. Cristian Cenușe is the father of a two-year-old girl.
