The municipality of Craiova has launched a tender for a concession contract for the production of thermal and electric energy, with a maximum value of 2.6 billion lei over a period of 12 years. This comes in the wake of the insolvency of Electrocentrale Craiova, which occurred in December. The contract stipulates that a private investor will take over the operation of Elcen Craiova and invest nearly 1 billion lei in modernizing the infrastructure.
A new unit will be built capable of producing a thermal power of at least 30 MWt in winter and 5 MWt in summer, with a maximum capacity of 135 MWt in winter and 25 MWt in summer. The municipality acknowledges that it can no longer manage the supply of heating for citizens alone and emphasizes the need to attract a private investor. The contract will include the sale of thermal energy to Ford Otosan Romania SRL, while distribution will remain the responsibility of Termo Craiova.
