A wide-ranging corruption case affects the forestry sector in Maramureș, involving a mayor and a former director of the Forestry Department, accused of influence peddling, buying influence and abuse of office. Investigators have started criminal proceedings against 15 suspects, including employees of the directorate and company managers. Legal actions include searches and the investigation of serious offenses such as illegal felling of trees. The former director is also accused of destroying evidence to obstruct the investigation.
