Two cohabitants from Bacău County, already arrested for the murder of a man, have been sent back to trial for qualified murder and robbery. Prosecutors accuse them of having lured a local woman, Nica Doina, into a forest near the village of Gârceni in August 2023, where they killed her to steal her money. The victim, who had recently withdrawn an amount of approximately 3,000 lei sent by her husband who had gone abroad, was abandoned in an isolated area. The investigation was complicated, requiring an anthropological expertise to identify the victim due to the advanced state of degradation of the remains found.
The case was discovered after the cohabitants were arrested for another murder committed in July 2024, when a man was killed under the pretext of a romantic meeting. Following the previous conviction, the defendant received 28 years in prison, and his cohabitant 22 years. The new charge could lead to even harsher penalties, including life imprisonment, considering the severity of the acts.
