Reformist prosecutor Claudiu Sandu, member of the CSM, harshly criticized the appointments announced by President Nicușor Dan for the chief prosecutor positions, three of whom did not have a favorable opinion from the CSM. Considered one of the reformist prosecutors in the CSM, Claudiu Sandu states, in a reaction on Facebook, that the decision to appoint the heads of the major prosecutor's offices is "exclusively political."
Below is the full post of prosecutor Claudiu Sandu:
"DISAPPOINTMENT
I watched the conference of the President of Romania.
Far be it from me to criticize the manifestation of the will of the elected people.
Something else shocked me.
He said it was a free procedure and the prosecutors refused to register.
I told him, when I was invited to Cotroceni for consultations, that the prosecutors know that the decision is political and, if he wants a real competition, he should send a message that gives participants confidence that they have a chance.
No such message came.
Now he says that the prosecutors refused to register for a free competition.
Is there any normal person who believes that it was a competition?
The president said that there is a lot of information in the public space but there is no evidence
Hmmm.
What does he understand by evidence?
Is the fact that some magistrates risked their careers and even their lives to reveal how the panels were changed in high-stakes cases not evidence?
Or is it necessary for the defendant to admit the committed act; otherwise, there is no evidence.
The fact that the careers and lives of honest and courageous people like Camelia Bogdan, Cristi Danilet, and many others were destroyed, some only obtaining justice in front of European courts, is not sufficient evidence?
I have tried, as a member of the CSM, to do my job with all the responsibility and expertise that nearly 25 years of career give me.
All five of us did our utmost to evaluate the candidates.
But it seems that it is in vain.
The decision is exclusively political.
For those who still believed that Romania is a rule of law, today you have contrary evidence.
In reality, there is only one power.
The political power.
Which does not work in any case for the honest citizen.
The political power is immune. It ensures immunity and claims that it assumes the decisions.
In reality, how many politicians have you seen pay in recent years for the decisions made?
But how many magistrates have you seen paying for the courage to investigate politically protected individuals? Or to condemn such individuals?
Politicians have made magistrates scapegoats for the misfortunes in the country.
Now they laugh and relax in the shadow of immunity.
We must accept reality. We move forward."
