An article published on the BNR Opinions blog, signed by Cristian Bichi, advisor to the BNR governor, discusses the CERS warning regarding frontier artificial intelligence models. These models can significantly influence cyber operations, having the ability to identify vulnerabilities and execute autonomous cyber attacks, which can generate systemic risks for the European financial system.

CERS emphasizes that, in the short and medium term, these developments will benefit attackers, but in the long term, they could contribute to strengthening cyber resilience. The authority calls on public and private operators to update their cybersecurity frameworks, and the ECB has asked banks to assess the impact of cyber threats and to develop action plans. The author's conclusion is that this warning represents the beginning of a coordinated action at the European level to strengthen cybersecurity.
