Călin Georgescu, the sovereignist leader who entered the 2nd round of the annulled 2024 election, is preparing to leave Romania for medical treatment at a private clinic in Austria or Germany, according to Newsweek sources. The decision comes after judges lifted the judicial control measure, imposed for 14 months in the case where he is accused of legionary propaganda. Georgescu has previously expressed reservations about modern medicine, stating that doctors cannot know better than patients about their sufferings. In February 2025, he traveled to Germany for a surgical intervention on his leg. From now on, Georgescu no longer has to report weekly to the Police Station in Buftea, and the decision regarding judicial control is final. However, the sovereignist leader is facing a second criminal case, accused of complicity in an attempt against the constitutional order, with the trial continuing without changes. Prosecutors claim that Georgescu promoted legionary ideology and attempted to normalize the figure of the Legionary Movement through public statements.
