The proposals to merge several institutions in Romania, aimed at reducing expenses, were abandoned due to political disputes.

After the election of President Nicușor Dan and the appointment of the government led by Ilie Bolojan, proposals were made to merge institutions to reduce state costs. Kelemen Hunor, the president of UDMR, announced in June mergers between the National Audiovisual Council (CNA) and the National Authority for Management and Regulation in Communications (ANCOM), as well as between the National Council for Combating Discrimination (CNCD) and the Ombudsman. Additionally, there was discussion about merging the Competition Council with ANPC. However, these proposals have stalled due to political disputes, with each party wanting to maintain control over the institutions. Ioana Dogioiu, the spokesperson for the Government, refused to comment on the situation. The arguments for mergers include streamlining activities and reducing costs, but discussions have not progressed. Currently, Parliament needs to appoint new leaders for the institutions, and the merger proposals seem to have been abandoned.
