The Ministry of National Defense was informed about the mine explosion in the Bîstroe canal through Ukrainian media. The incident, which resulted in the death of three sailors out of a total of 11, occurred when the Ukrainian dredger hit the mine. The canal is closed to check the area as there is a risk of other mines, possibly from the Ukrainian war or World War II. Romania has expressed concerns about Ukrainian dredging operations in the area. The Romanian army is working with Bulgaria and Turkey to identify sea mines.
