German prosecutors have announced the arrest of two individuals, including a woman with Romanian citizenship, for espionage in favor of Russia. Sergey N., a Ukrainian citizen, was arrested in Spain, while the Romanian Alla S. was detained in Germany.
They are suspected of gathering information about a person who supplied drones to Ukraine. Sergey N. spied on the target since December 2025, collecting information online and filming her workplace. After moving to Spain, Alla S. took over the espionage tasks in March 2026.
Russian espionage operations have intensified in Germany since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, and German authorities have responded by expelling a Russian diplomat suspected of espionage activities. Berlin has reaffirmed that it does not tolerate espionage on its territory, especially under the cover of diplomatic status.
