Bucharest and Ilfov County are under an orange alert for heavy snowfall until today at 4:00 PM, while the counties of Călărași, Ialomița, Brăila, Tulcea, and Constanța are under an orange alert for consistent snow and blizzard until Wednesday evening at 11:00 PM, according to new warnings from meteorologists.
The National Meteorological Administration issued an orange alert for cold weather, generally moderate precipitation, snow cover, wind intensifications, and blizzard from Wednesday at 10:00 AM until Thursday at 10:00 AM.
The orange alert is valid for Moldova, eastern Muntenia, and Dobrogea, where maximum temperatures will range between -6 and 0 degrees. Minimum temperatures will be negative across the entire country and will range between -8 and 1 degree.
In the eastern half of the country, it will continue to snow with blizzard conditions, with speeds of 50...70 km/h, and in the Southern Carpathians and Curvature Mountains, there will be gusts of 70...90 km/h, conditions in which visibility will be reduced. A new layer of snow will accumulate with average thicknesses of 10...20 cm. Water quantities of 10...15 l/m² will accumulate, and locally over 20 l/m² in the southeastern territory.
Also, from Wednesday at 10:00 AM, a yellow alert for wind intensifications came into effect. Affected areas: the counties of Mehedinți, Dolj, Olt, and Teleorman, valid until Wednesday evening at 11:00 PM.
Ilfov County and the municipality of Bucharest are under an orange alert for snowfall, with a consistent layer of snow until Wednesday at 4:00 PM.
The counties of Călărași, Ialomița, Brăila, Tulcea, and Constanța are under an orange alert for snowfall, consistent snow cover, strong wind intensifications, and heavy blizzard until Wednesday evening at 11:00 PM. Thus, in the counties of Călărași, Ialomița, Brăila, Tulcea, and Constanța, it will snow and a locally consistent layer of snow will accumulate, generally with thicknesses of 20...25 cm (equivalent to 20...25 l/m²). The wind will have strong intensifications with gusts of 60...80 km/h, temporarily there will be heavy blizzard, snowdrifts, and visibility below 50 m.
The National Meteorological Administration also announced that from Wednesday evening at 11:00 PM, a yellow alert for blizzard snow will come into effect in the eastern Southern Carpathians and the Curvature Mountains until Thursday at 10:00 AM. During the mentioned interval, in the eastern Southern Carpathians and in the Curvature Mountains, it will snow with blizzard conditions, where visibility will drop below 100 m. The wind will have intensifications with gust speeds generally of 70...90 km/h.
The circulation of 20 trains has been suspended Wednesday morning due to the weather, announced CFR.
Also, the authorities in the counties of Vrancea and Galați and partially in Brăila decided to suspend physical attendance classes in all educational institutions due to heavy snowfall and strong blizzard. Giurgiu County was the first to announce on Tuesday the closure of schools due to unfavorable weather.
At the same time, Wednesday morning, Henri Coandă International Airport was also affected by the weather, while no plane landed or took off.
