The National Association of Travel Agencies (ANAT) signals an alarming situation: Romania attracts fewer international tourists than during the communist period, with a number of foreign visitors barely exceeding 2 million. ANAT President, Alin Burcea, emphasizes that Romanian tourism has not benefited from a coherent strategy since 1989, which has led to a directionless transition and lack of investment.

ANAT demands that incoming tourism be declared an economic priority, with a multiannual strategy and predictable budget. Romania risks significant economic losses and a deterioration of its international image if it does not act quickly.
