The ANAF has launched complex checks among artists, especially folk music singers, to identify any undeclared tax liabilities. Investigations have revealed the use of assignments and family-controlled companies to avoid tax payments, as well as unclear income from media platforms. A notable example is the case of the manele singer Dani Mocanu, with undeclared tax liabilities of 1.6 million lei.

The controls have uncovered undeclared income of hundreds of millions of lei, especially in Cluj, where three individuals accumulated 337 million lei in undeclared income. ANAF has encountered difficulties in these investigations, as some artists use lawyers and consultants to delay the procedures. For example, an artist from Argeș County assigned copyright rights to family-controlled companies, which reported income from media platforms incompletely or incorrectly.

In the second quarter, ANAF conducted a record number of checks, identifying undeclared income of 398 million lei, compared to 81.5 million lei in the first three months of the year. The tax claims established by ANAF totaled 167.3 million lei, highlighting the intensification of efforts to combat tax evasion among high-net-worth individuals.
