According to INS data, 19% of Romania's population is living at risk of poverty, a decrease of 375,000 people compared to 2023. Poverty rates are higher among young people and women. Severe material and social deprivation affects 3.266 million people and social transfers contribute significantly to poverty reduction. The South-East region has the highest rate of social exclusion and 355,000 Romanians face all three forms of poverty.
