The Local Council of Alba Iulia adopted on Friday a resolution declaring a state of serious disruption of the public local transport service for passengers, caused by the failure of the delegated operator to fulfill its obligations.

The resolution was adopted with 11 votes in favor and 9 abstentions, during an extraordinary meeting. Local public transport has been suspended since June 17, after employees of the Local Transport Company (STP) stopped working due to unpaid salaries. Mayor Gabriel Pleșa announced that a temporary transport operator, either public or private, will be contracted until January 7, 2027, or until the service is resumed by STP.

The City Hall claims that it is up to date with payments, while STP states that it has arrears of over 14 million lei, which has led to the financial blockage. Despite the court's decision to compel STP to resume the service, drivers refuse to operate until the debts are paid.
