A study conducted by InfoCons between 2022 and 2026 revealed that over 80% of the 65 analyzed sunscreen products presented chemical risks, and nearly 17% were identified as counterfeit.

The number of alerts increased significantly, from 2 products in 2022 to 31 in 2025, most of which came from Italy. Most alerts were associated with the brands Nivea and BILBOA. The chemical risks are alarming, with 83.1% of products containing banned substances, such as butylphenyl methylpropional, which can affect reproductive health.

Additionally, some products labeled with SPF 50+ offered real protection that was up to five times lower, according to the study. InfoCons recommends consumers to check the labels and ingredients of products, to be cautious of unusually low prices, and to use the InfoCons app to verify products and stay informed about market alerts.
