The Romanian Energy Suppliers Association (AFEER) presented a study conducted by ASC Xlaed Business Hub SRL, which analyzes the evolution and impact of prosumers on the energy system in Romania. Lorant Antal emphasized that the infrastructure for the distribution of natural gas and electricity is underdeveloped, with only 40-45% of the country connected to gas networks.

The energy sector needs to catch up on historical delays and adapt to the energy transition. The study shows an exponential increase in the number of prosumers, from 303 in 2019 to nearly 300,000 in 2026, with an installed capacity of 3,400 MW. This rapid expansion has generated additional costs for suppliers, with the estimated impact for 2024 being tens of millions of euros, affecting non-prosumer consumers.
