Scammers access people's Whatsapp accounts, demanding money from people they know. The amount demanded is usually 1,800 lei, which is why the scam has been dubbed the '1,800 scheme'. Victims are tricked into sending the money to the specified accounts, believing they are talking to people they know. It is important that those contacted always check the money request directly with their acquaintances before making any payment.
