Ross "The Boss" Friedman, a renowned guitarist and co-founder of the bands The Dictators and Manowar, has announced that he has been diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a degenerative disease of the nervous system. In a statement, Friedman expressed his sadness that he can no longer play guitar, but emphasized the support and love he has received from family, friends, and fans. The musician was diagnosed after months of enduring symptoms, such as muscle weakness. ALS affects nerve cells and leads to progressive muscle weakness, and most patients have an average life expectancy of three years. Although there is no conclusive test for ALS, researchers have developed a promising blood test for the early detection of the disease.

Friedman had a prolific career, debuting in 1973 alongside The Dictators and continuing with Manowar, with which he also made history.
