Romania's song for Eurovision, 'Choke Me', has been labeled as 'dangerous' and 'reckless' due to lyrics that seem to glorify sexual choking, a risky practice that can cause brain injuries and even death. Activists against sexual violence have pointed out that the repetition of the phrase 'choke me' 30 times in the song 'plays with the lives of young women'.

Clare McGlynn, a legal expert, highlighted the indifference towards women's health and called for better education about the associated risks. Negative reactions have emerged on social media, with some fans calling for a change in the lyrics or disqualification of the song. Eurovision is also facing calls for a boycott due to controversies surrounding Israel's participation, adding another layer of complexity to this year's competition. The contest will take place in Vienna, with the semifinals scheduled for May 12 and 14, and the final on May 16.
