The Academy of Arts and Cinematographic Sciences has published the short list for the 2025 Oscars, highlighting a tight competition between the films 'Sinners' from Warner Bros. and 'Wicked: For Good' from Universal, each having eight nominations. Among the categories voted on by members are animated short, documentary, and visual effects. This year, two new categories are being introduced: 'best ensemble' and 'best cinematography'. 'Sinners' has received recognition in seven categories, including for ensemble and cinematography, while 'Wicked: For Good' had similar nominations. The Netflix film 'Frankenstein' also had a strong presence with six nominations. The international films category was dominated by 'Sirat', directed by Oliver Laxe, with five nominations. The selection also included a significant number of female directors, with seven of the 15 international feature films being made by women. Voting for the Oscars will take place between January 12 and 16, and the final nominations will be announced on January 22. The awards ceremony will be hosted by Conan O'Brien on March 15.
