The Labubu figurines, famous for their quirky appearance and sharp teeth, will be the protagonists of a feature film, according to an announcement made by the Chinese company Pop Mart. These plush toys have generated a global commercial frenzy starting in 2024, being worn by celebrities such as Rihanna and Dua Lipa. Pop Mart has officially partnered with Sony Pictures for the film, which will combine computer-generated imagery with real footage. Directed by Paul King, known for the films 'Wonka' and 'Paddington', the feature aims to bring the fantastic Labubu universe to the big screen. The dolls are sold in limited editions and in 'mystery boxes', and their success has been celebrated by China as a sign of growing cultural influence. Last year, Pop Mart sold over 100 million Labubu globally, solidifying their status as ambassadors of a 'cool' China in Europe and North America.
