Italian authorities have decided to ban the concerts of Kanye West and Travis Scott, scheduled for July in Reggio Emilia, citing public order and security reasons.
Prefect Salvatore Angieri announced that this decision was influenced by a request from the local Jewish community, which asked for the cancellation of West's concert, now known as Ye, due to his anti-Semitic and racist comments. The community leader, Nicoletta Uzzielli, proposed replacing the show with one that promotes music as a force for unification.
The decision was also influenced by West's previous concert cancellations in other countries and the risks of counter-demonstrations. Scott has been the subject of intense scrutiny following the tragedy at the Astroworld festival in 2021, where 10 people died.
