Helmut Stürmer, a great Romanian scenographer, died at the age of 83.

Helmut Stürmer, an emblematic figure in international scenography, passed away at the age of 83, according to the announcement from the National Theatre 'I.L. Caragiale' in Bucharest. Born in 1942 in Timișoara, Stürmer graduated from the Institute of Fine Arts in Bucharest and made his professional debut at the State Theatre in Sibiu and the Bulandra Theatre. He created scenographies for numerous theatres in Romania and collaborated with renowned directors, including Dan Pița and Liviu Ciulei.

After 1977, he settled in Germany, where he continued to collaborate with prestigious theatrical institutions, becoming especially known for his opera scenographies. Among his famous works are the sets for 'Faust' and 'Hamlet', for which he received UNITER awards. He also designed the scenography for notable films and was awarded numerous prizes for his artistic contributions. Stürmer redefined the relationship between space and emotion, leaving a lasting imprint on the world of European theatre.
