Along with the prison sentence, Panahi received a two-year travel ban. This is not the first time the director has faced legal issues. In 2010, he was arrested and sentenced to six years in prison for similar charges. Despite having travel bans, Panahi continued to create films, including "A Simple Accident," which won the Palme d'Or at Cannes and will represent France at the Oscars. Recently, Panahi expressed regret that censored Iranian artists cannot represent their country at international events. His film, made in secret, criticizes the regime in Tehran.
