<p>The Cannes Film Festival opens in a tense atmosphere with an appeal signed by 380 film personalities calling for an end to the 'genocide' in Gaza and the war in Ukraine. Among the signatories are director Pedro Almodovar and actors Susan Sarandon and Richard Gere. The opening ceremony will include an honorary Palme d'Or award to Robert De Niro and a screening of documentaries about the war in Ukraine. The festival promises glamor and star-studded attendance, while the jury, headed by Juliette Binoche (pictured), will decide the Palme d'Or winner from the 22 films competing.
