<p>In the first round of elections in Romania, George Simion won 40% of the vote, with the support of more than 60% of Romanians living abroad, most of them uneducated workers. Nationalist rhetoric and campaigning on TikTok contributed to his success. Economist Cristian Păun warns the diaspora vote could lead to chaos in the country. Some 4 million Romanians live abroad and many of them have identified with Simion's messages, seeing him as a savior of the working class.
