President Nicușor Dan stressed on Facebook that Ion Iliescu, the central figure of the Romanian transition, will be judged by history. He emphasized Romania's obligation to clarify the major issues of that period in order to move forward. Ion Iliescu died at the age of 95, having been hospitalized with lung cancer, and details of the state funeral will be announced later. August 7 will be a day of national mourning.
