Millie Colling and Emma Aalto are on track to become the first same-sex ice dance team made up of athletes from Finland, following a change in regulations that allows them to compete together. These changes, inspired by Skate Canada, promote inclusion in sports. Although international competitions have not yet adopted similar changes, Aalto and Colling hope that this precedent will encourage other countries to follow suit. Ice dancing, focused on interpretation, is considered suitable for competitions between same-sex individuals, without a distinct physical advantage.
