World Boxing has announced that all athletes taking part in its competitions will have to undergo genetic testing to determine their sex, starting with the 2028 Olympics. Imane Khelif, the Olympic women's welterweight champion, will not be able to compete until this test has been carried out. The PCR test, which can be performed by various sampling methods, will check for the presence of the SRY gene, which is indicative of biological sex. The organization thus aims to ensure a level playing field between men and women.
