Universitatea Craiova won the Romanian Cup on Wednesday evening, following a final held in Sibiu, where they faced Universitatea Cluj.
The match was balanced, with chances from both sides, but without goals, ending 0-0 after 90 minutes and extra time. The Cluj team had a goal disallowed by VAR in the 26th minute, and both teams missed important opportunities. In the penalty shootout, Craiova managed to win 6-5, after Laurențiu Popescu saved a decisive shot.
This is the third Romanian Cup won by Craiova in the last nine years, thus consolidating its status as a force in Romanian football. U Cluj, with only one trophy in 1965, continues to seek success in domestic competitions.
