The draw for the World Cup 2026 playoff will take place on Thursday at 14:00 (Eastern European Standard Time) in Zurich. Romania will thus know its opponent in the competition that will decide the last teams qualified for the tournament. The 2026 World Cup will be hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada, featuring 48 participating teams, divided into 12 groups of 4. The top two teams from each group will qualify for the round of 16, along with the best 8 teams in third place. So far, 42 teams have qualified, including hosts the USA, Canada, and Mexico, as well as teams from various confederations. Romania, along with 22 other teams, will participate in the playoffs for the last 6 available spots, 4 for Europe and 2 for the rest of the world. Possible opponents for Romania in the playoff semifinals are Italy, Denmark, Turkey, and Ukraine. The European playoffs will take place in March, with semifinals on March 26 and finals on March 31.
